New Zealander Sarai Bareman (@SarBareman find her on Twitter and shout out a congrats) has been appointed as Chief Women's Football Officer for FIFA. This is outstanding news on top of the creation of a Women's Football Division, and with her new position getting a seat on the FIFA Management Board. Board positions filled by women are a great trend for creating change and equality. Sarai has played the game since her start as a young girl, playing all the way up to the Samoan women's national team. She is a terrific example of a player staying in the game, as she has worked at the national association and confederation level. She also served as the only female on the FIFA Reform Committee, advocating for reforms in the troubled organization and for an increased women's role. She was successful! We wish her well and look forward to following her work, speaking up for the women's game. Congratulations Sarai!
